Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season. We have all experienced an extraordinary year with the COVID pandemic, so as 2020 draws to a close, we all hope for an easier time in 2021. This is a good time to reflect on the good things in our lives: that we live in a safe country; that there are many good neighbours who look after us in our hospitals and clinics; that there are more good neighbours who work in grocery stores and libraries, and provide other needed services; and that libraries exist for everyone. Marigold Library System with its member libraries and services (e.g., lockers, books by mail), and especially with its online presence, have provided needed and well-used resources for the 320,000 people who live in municipalities within Marigold’s boundaries. These resources supported learners of all ages as well as people seeking affordable recreation and reliable information. Marigold’s online programs and activities inspired readers while promoting literacy and creativity. We have much to be thankful for, and everyone at Marigold Library System thanks you for your support of libraries, and especially for supporting the special public library in your community. Please be careful and stay safe during this Christmas season. We’ll get through this together.

The Government of Alberta is implementing additional public health measures to respond to rising COVID-19 spread and to protect the health of Albertans and the capacity of the health care system.
The measures are in effect as of Friday, November 27, including restrictions on entertainment and event services that will affect all public libraries in Alberta.
Marigold and the Western Irrigation District (WID) celebrated the start of construction of their new joint facility with an official ground-breaking ceremony in Strathmore on September 11.
In October, Marigold libraries are encouraged to participate in Celebrate Your Library Month in combination with Library Card Sign-Up Month. People love their library and they love having a chance to express that appreciation!
Promoting Celebrate Your Library Month and Library Card Sign-Up Month is a way to increase awareness and build connections to your library and its role in the community. If your plan of service has a goal to increase the number of cardholders, these initiatives would be fun ways to achieve your goal!
