Follow-up to April 18th Marigold Board Meeting

Apr 21, 2020 Michelle Toombs, CEO

Saturday, April 18 was a banner day for Marigold. 39 Marigold Trustees participated in our Board meeting, which was a record turnout for Trustees (39 out of 44)!  Marigold is pleased that everything worked so smoothly with our first Board Zoom conference.  Now we have another reliable option to conduct future meetings.  All the motions in the accompanying survey passed.

We were more than excited to see the funding announcement from Dr. Diana Davidson, PLSB Director.  This was about the distribution of 50% of the provincial library operating grants that are coming soon.  This good news was shared with Marigold Trustees and member library managers on April 20, 2020.

During our Board meeting, there was interest in finding out more about federal wage subsidies.  We shared information, including the following government of Canada link and contact information for Service Canada.  As discussed during the meeting, decisions about employment rest with the library board.  We are happy to help with information gathering and support for local library boards, such as setting up Zoom conferences for local board meetings.

Because Marigold has a direct relationship with our Trustees, we asked them to share information with us about library service in each of their communities. We also asked our Trustees to inform their municipal Council about what Marigold is doing to support library service in their municipality at this time.  In summary, Marigold is working with library staff and municipal residents to provide memberships, remote IT support, access to virtual resources, training, online programming, marketing and communication, consultation and board support. Staff member roles have diversified and increased, and we continue to work hard for Marigold because we believe that library service is needed -- even more so at this time.

Take care.  Stay safe. And thanks so much for your support.
