Heading off to the Foothills, Kananaskis or Mountains for some family fun? Thanks to Alberta Parks, five Marigold libraries are the lucky recipients of Explorer Packs. The packs include a variety of activities, guides, equipment like magnifying glasses and binoculars, and safety information to help people explore nature using their senses, answer questions they have about what they see or experience, and learn how to play safe in the mountains. There are lots of fun family activities like scavenger hunts and beautiful animal and flower identification guides in the packs. Visit to plan your visit.
Patrons can check out the backpacks if they are visiting the Canmore, Okotoks, Sheep River, Bighorn/Exshaw and Banff areas (dependent on availability). To place a hold on a backpack for pickup at one of these locations, speak to your local library or call these libraries — Canmore Public Library, Okotoks Public Library, Sheep River Library, Bighorn Library, Banff Public Library. The backpacks must be checked out and returned in person at the library you borrow the backpack from.

Marigold Library System is a not-for-profit organization that provides cost-effective public library services for over 280,000 residents of south central Alberta through 37 member libraries, 13 paperback deposits and a Library to You (L2U) service. As a member of TRAC (The Regional Automation Consortium), RISE (Rural Information Services initiativE) and TAL (The Alberta Library), Marigold is committed to collaboration and innovation.
